Spackling Queen

Well, here's some disastrous works in progress for you all to see. Our "bonus" room off of a bedroom has horrendous cracks that had been filled in previously and looked like poop because they were higher than the surrounding wall surface and smooth, rather than textured like the rest of the plaster. The Time Life home improvements book advised us to dig out the cracks, fill them in, then texture the plaster with a sponge. We're going to give it a go!

Any one with advice on how to get paint off of moldings?? I despise that people are too lazy to use painter's tape.

A few extra notes:

My mom wore her sweater on Father's Day. I think it turned out a-o-k.

An official sign of summer....Brian argues that the otter pop is better. It's all the same to me.

Happy first day of Summer everyone!

I agree with Brian, Otter Pop's are good! We still need to get the paint off of our moldings, fortunately ours are white though, so I think all we need to do is get some touch up paint. They may have some wood colored paint or stain that you could use to cover that up. It looks like you had fun patching up the cracks, very ambitious you two are :)

Nice walls!, but I think that's going to be your new walk-in closet? Good luck refilling.

Try sanding those paint stains on the wookwork. You may just want to refinish the wood anyway with newly painted walls.

NICE sweater! Did I put my order in yet??!!! I am impressed.

The guys always did like Otter pops. Good sign that it's summer. They ate hundreds of them at the cottage.

Yeah, I think the paint will be on the moldings forever. Gary can teach you how to put up new moldings--my part in the process is that I rip off the old moldings with a crowbar!!! It's very fun, but you need some fancy saw Gary has and another fancy saw that he needs to buy.

Speaking of "need to buy" I came online to tell you that I finished the Dave Ramsey book you sent me. I really liked it. It seemed quite in line with a lot of the financial ideas we have, but I liked all of the Baby Steps and their order. Is there another book that gets me into the envelope thing or do I make it up from the budget worksheet? I know I have made fun of you, but there was one profile of a 27 year old who got on board and has the potential to be a mega-billionare. Sounds great to me. Maybe we'll all have molding without paint by then!!

Kim, I have a different book you can borrow that probably goes over the envelopes in more detail. We just like to use envelopes for our allowance, entertainment, restaurants and groceries because those are things we buy often and it's hard to keep track of what you've spent already without them.
I'm glad you liked the book - I think it makes good sense. I won't say "common sense" because Brian always argues that if it were "common sense" then everyone (all the commoners) would be doing it.

Spackling Queen..... Isn't that an Abba song? Love the sweater on the Mom. That is some fine crochet!!!

Oh my lordie - don't even kid Linda! We all know if it were crochet she's look like a big doily/grandma square! (So sorry to insult any crocheters out there, I really don't know that much about the craft, just that knitters rule!)

Angie, I think you need to post a link to Dave Ramsey. You've got all of those people excited about knitting, get them exicited about being millionares!

Another thing you must do is take before and after photos of your projects. They're nice to have so you can celebrate all of your hard work, and truly remember how bad it looked before!

In regards to all of the Dave Ramsey stuff...we are getting interested in it too! He was on the Focus on the Family radio broadcast 2 nights this week and it was really interesting. You can listen to it on family.org very interesting! Good tips too!

Your wish is my command Kim. I'm glad you guys enjoy his theory. I think a lot of financial guys out there are in it for the gimmick, but he's a true Christian who really seems to care about helping people through bad times in life. I actually recommended him to a patient of mine with anxiety because they're dealing with an upcoming bankruptcy. I usually wouldn't bring my personal feelings into the work place like that.
BTW, he's going to have a reality show pretty soon where he helps some families, kind of like Oprah's debt diet.
